What the data plan needs to establish
An active product needs a clear identity, category, supplier reference, and destination field for each value you intend to keep.
Choose active, inactive, discounted, and unusually structured items for the test. Agree whether archived items should remain available for reports or appear as sellable products.
Map the details that matter
- Source product ID → retained crosswalk
- Product name and category → approved destination fields
- Active status → agreed selling availability
- Supplier reference → vendor field or retained reference
An illustrative check
An illustrative catalog has 500 active styles and 40 archived styles. The scope should say whether 540 records are retained, 500 are sellable, or the archive follows a different path.
Validate the catalog before stock is loaded
- Count parent products separately from sellable variants; retain excluded IDs in the exception log.
- Compare agreed names, categories, vendor references, prices and costs for active and archived samples.
- Locate a pre-existing destination product and prove that the chosen match rule does not create another copy.
- Check selling availability and image access separately; a CSV row count cannot prove either.
